The Madhya Pradesh Congress on Tuesday claimed that the 24-hour state-wide bandh, called by the party to protest the killing of IPS officer, Narendra Kumar Singh and the deteriorating law and order situation in the state was a big success.
The state Congress media department Chairman, Manak Agarwal told reporters here that no untoward incident was reported from anywhere during the bandh.
It was unprecedented, totally peaceful and a big success, he claimed. Agarwal said that after the IPS officer's killing, state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had lost all moral right to continue in office.
"It is our demand that Chouhan should immediately resign from office," he said.
Agarwal said a delegation of party leaders from Madhya Pradesh had yesterday called on Home Minister P Chidambaram on Monday in Delhi and he had assured that a CBI probe would be held into the IPS officer's murder.
The bandh affected normal life and shops as well as commercial establishments remained closed in the city.
In Malwa region including Indore, vehicular traffic was affected and shops remained closed since morning, police said.
The bandh began at 0800 hours and would continue till 1500 hours. Though schools, colleges and offices were open, the attendance was very thin, they said.
Congressmen riding on two wheelers were seen asking shopkeepers to observe bandh on a peaceful note. They also burnt an effigy of Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Yashwant Road circle in Indore.
Meanwhile, Indore BJP Chief Shankar Lalwani criticised the Congress' bandh and said it was thorough flop show.
