A major American news network mistakenly aired the map of Punjab while announcing that Indian-origin South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley would be a key speaker during the Republican National Convention in Tampa later in August.
The CNN made this error in the midst of it covering the shooting incident at a gurudwara in Wisconsin. Haley's parents are from Punjab.
"It was a mistake," a CNN spokesperson was quoted as saying by POLITICO.
Meanwhile, Haley, in a statement posted on her Facebook page, expressed condolences to victims of the shooting.
"It's very sad to see something like this happen to a peaceful place of worship. Our prayers and condolences go out to the families of the innocent victims and the family of the heroic officer in this senseless tragedy," she wrote.
Though Haley has converted to Christianity, she has maintained close ties with the local gurudwara.
Haley is the first female governor of the south-eastern US state and the youngest sitting governor in the country.
