Former American president Bill Clinton's much-awaited autobiography, in which he gives an account of his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky and the subsequent personal moral dilemma, went on sale on Monday in book stores across the United States with thousands of his fans queuing up to buy copies of it.

The 957-page book, My life, is expected to become an  easy best-seller.

The book encouraged Democrats who believe it would give a boost to the election campaign of their presidential candidate John Kerry, but Republicans said it could overshadow the Kerry campaign to the advantage of President

George W Bush.

As Clinton appeared on CBS television on Sunday night to promote the book, a conservative lobbying group 'Citizens
United' took out advertisements holding him responsible for failing to prevent the September 11 attacks.

The advertisements also listed the terrorist attacks abroad during his presidency.
