Dixit to hold border talks with China

The third round of India-China special representatives-level boundary talks are likely to be held in New Delhi on July 26-27, sources said here.

While an official announcement to this effect has not yet been made, it is understood that Beijing is likely to endorse the July 26-27 dates proposed by New Delhi, the sources said.

The meeting would be the first between India's new National Security Advisor J N Dixit, who was appointed as special representative to negotiate the boundary issue with his Chinese counterpart Dai Bingguo, who is also Executive Vice Foreign Minister.

and Dai had held two rounds of border negotiations since the special representative mechanism was established by India and China last year to settle the border issue during former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's visit to China.

With over 10 rounds of official-level talks failing to make much headway in resolving the boundary issue, the two governments decided to designate special representatives to explore a framework solution from the political perspective of the overall relationship.
