Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, a close associate of gangster Chhota Shakeel, was extradited to Mumbai from Bangkok on Thursday.

"Three police officers who flew to the Thailand capital last week returned to Mumbai with Bhullar," Deputy Commissioner of Police Nisar Tamboli told PTI.

A red corner notice had been issued against Bhullar in December 2006, the police said.

Bhullar, a sharp-shooter for the Shakeel gang, is wanted in several cases in Mumbai, including those related to murder and attempt to murder.

Police inspectors Shalini Sharma, Dilip Kale and Prashant Marde went to Bangkok to get custody of the 31-year-old Bhullar, who had been hiding there for last few years.

Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) Rakesh Maria said Bhullar was nabbed by the Thailand police's special branch in November 2006 for opening fire at Sayyed Rehman (31) and injuring him.

The incident was reported on May 25, 2003, in Bangkok.

During investigations, the Thai police realised that Bhullar had been staying in their country under a fake name, Iqbal, after forging his passport and other documents.

Bhullar is also wanted for the murder of Shiv Sena activist Ramakant Hadkar in the year 2000. The gangster had allegedly killed Hadkar at the Sena office in Vile Parle, a north-west suburb of Mumbai.

Bhullar and his associate Vivek Kamble had originally planned to kill the Shiv Sena shakha pramukh (branch head) in Vile Parle, the police said.

However, when the duo went there, the branch head was not present and instead the duo shot Hadkar, who was in the party office, dead.

Bhullar's associate Kamble was gunned down in a police encounter in the year 2000, the police said.
