The Central Board of Secondary Education would consider allowing thousands of students in tsunami-affected areas to change their centres for the class X and XII examinations, CBSE Chairman Ashok Ganguly said in New Delhi on Wednesday.
"If a student from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands wants to take his test in, say Chennai, we will definitely consider it," he told PTI.
Similar changes were allowed during crisis situations earlier also, he said.
While the class X Board examination is scheduled to be held from March 1 to 24, the class XII tests would take place from March 1 to April 1.
"While it is not possible to change the dates of the examinations as this will affect lakhs of students across the country, we are aware of the problems that students in the areas hit by the waves are facing," he said.
Many of the around 70 CBSE-affiliated schools in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been damaged by the tsunami disaster.
Thousands of people have been affected in the island territory, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh due to the devastation.
