Former Karnataka minister and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy was on Wednesday granted bail in the cash-for-bail scam by the Andhra Pradesh high court.
Reddy, the prime accused in the two cases of illegal mining and export of iron ore in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh was also booked for allegedly paying a bribe of Rs 10 crore to the judge of a Central Bureau of Investigation court in Hyderabad last year
and he is presently lodged in the Chanchalguda jail.
Even after the high court granting him the bail in the bribe case, he will remain in jail in the other two cases.
The cash-for-bail scam created a lot of sensation in the judicial circles as three acting judges of lower courts including the CBI court judge Patthabi Rama Rao, one retired judge Chalapati Rao and two Karnataka MLAs including Gali Somashekhar Reddy were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. The high court has put all the accused judges under suspension.
