In the backdrop of massive protests in Delhi following gang rape of a student last week, a group of students on Monday staged a candle-light protest in Srinagar.

This is the first that the Kashmiri students have expressed solidarity with countrywide protests against the incident and demanded speedy justice in a fast-track court.

This, the students said, shall not only ensure speedy justice for the victim, but also send

a strong message across the country.

Holding candles in their hands, the group of students marched on the main thoroughfare of Lal Chowk in the freezing late afternoon.

They demanded bracing up of the security at sensitive points like coaching centres, schools and colleges to ensure safety of the women.

The students also demanded patrolling by police flying squads in sensitive areas.

The students also demanded an action taken report on the alleged rape and murder of two women in Shopian.
