Hisar police successfully intercepted an illegal camel transport operation, rescuing 13 camels destined for slaughter and arresting three individuals for animal cruelty, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat animal smuggling in India.
Police here rescued 13 camels being illegally transported for slaughter and arrested three people on charges of animal cruelty, officials said on Thursday.
They said that acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted the truck carrying camels from Rajasthan to Hisar. When signalled to stop, the driver tried to flee with the truck and allegedly attempted to hit the policemen with the vehicle.
However, he was stopped, and the three occupants of the truck were overpowered.
The arrested accused were Rahul (32), Rohit (26) and Salman (22), all residents of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.
The officials said police found 13 camels crammed into the truck.
A case was registered, and the accused were produced in a court, which remanded them to judicial custody, police said.
