In sarcastic comments Samajwadi party leader Azam Khan on Friday took on outfits demanding construction of a temple dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram
Godse, saying such temple should be constructed in every state.

"The temple of Nathura Godse should not come up at any one place but should come up at every district in the country and no one will have any objection to this," said Khan who was in Kanpur to attend a function at a friends' place on Thursday.

"Only his temples should not come up by demolishing any mosque. If there is a demand that his temple should come up at Taj Mahal, then it should be allowed there, no one will have any objection for this too," he said, adding, "Godse can also be bestowed with the ‘Bharat Ratna’".

Recently, activists of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha had allegedly performed a ceremony in Meerut for construction of a ‘temple’ dedicated to Godse, following which the administration ordered a probe into the matter.

Khan had earlier accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of conspiring to demolish Taj Mahal the way its workers brought down Babri mosque in Ayodhya. On the issue of conversion, the UP urban development minister said," The BJP members should first do ghar-vapsi of
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Shahnawaz Hussain, after that they should convert religions of others."

He said that situation will not be able to deteriorate and if any one tries to indulge in this, action will be taken as per law. Questioned about several remarks made by UP Governor Ram Naik on different issues, Khan said "The governor holds a constitutional position and such statements should not be made.
