Senior Samajwadi Party leader and Uttar Pradesh minister Mohammad Azam Khan has accused the Bahujan Samaj Party of trying to malign the image of the Akhilesh Yadav government ever since it was voted to power.

Reacting to recent incidents of clashes in different parts of the state after the swearing in of Akhilesh, Khan termed it a "conspiracy" hatched by BSP workers to defame the government in the name of law and order.

Khan, who was speaking after visiting families of the victims of various criminal cases that allegedly took place during the Mayawati regime, accused the BSP of patronising the criminals during its tenure of five years.

He also alleged that some officials close to the party were helping BSP in its attempt to defame the state government.

"Police officials who were in prominence during BSP rule are now managing crimes on the directions of their old guards," Khan said, alleging that during the BSP rule, these officials, instead of taking action against the criminals and their political bosses, remained busy in exploiting people.

He further said that with such a situation, the government of the day will require a considerable span of time to "correct the ruined state of affairs," and actions against such officials have already been initiated.
