BSF trooper killed in Pak cross border firing

In the fourth ceasefire violation in two days, Pakistani troops fired at a forward outpost on Wednesday along the International Border in Jammu sector, killing a Border Security Force jawan and leaving a villager injured. Pakistani troops fired at Pindi, Mala Bela and Chak Phagwari border outpost around 2230 hours on Tuesday night, BSF officials said, adding BSF troops fired back resulting in exchanges which continued till 0030 hours.

In the Pakistani firing, BSF jawan K Hari Prasad was killed and a villager Roop Singh was injured. Pakistani troops again opened fire at the Chak Pagwari BOP in Pargwal around 0500 hours, Inspector General of BSF, Jammu Frontier, A K Sarolia told PTI. The firing continued for over an hour intermittently and BSF troops guarding the border line fired back resulting in exchanges,

he said, adding it later stopped without any casualty.

Pakistani troops had also fired at the Chak Fagwari BOP, killing BSF trooper Sultan Ali. Pakistani troops also fired at forward positions along the Line of Control in Krishnagati area of Poonch sector on Monday night, they said. However, Indian troops guarding the LoC did not retaliate. There was no casualty in the firing.

BSF Deputy Inspector-General J S Oberoi said Pakistani troops had fired on a post and a night patrol party. The BSF had lodged a protest with Pakistani rangers over the ceasefire violations at a flag meeting on Tuesday. There have been many ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops this year. Pakistani troops had also violated the ceasefire last month when they fired at a forward outpost along the International Border in Jammu on June 21.
