MDMK rules out replacement for Ramachandran

May 24, 2003 15:48 IST

The MDMK on Saturday said there will be no replacement for Gingee Ramachandran, who resigned as Union minister of state for finance on Friday following a bribery scandal.

The party said it hoped that Ramachandran would be reinducted into the Union ministry just as Defence Minister George Fernandes was after the Tehelka scam.

Party's acting chairman L Ganesan told a crowded press conference in Chennai that Ramachandran's resignation would have no impact on MDMK's relations with the National Democratic Alliance.

Ramachandran's personal assistant Perumalswamy was caught accepting bribe from an Indian Revenue Service official in New Delhi on Thursday.
