Left parties on Thursday criticised the United Progressive Alliance government for not taking expeditious steps to bring comprehensive legislation on agricultural workers and giving land to tribals.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in turn, briefed Left leaders about progress in implementation of promises made in the Common Minimum Programme at a breakfast meeting.
The Left leaders sought steps to introduce the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament. They also criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party for boycotting Parliament and the working of the parliamentary standing committees, one of which is considering the crucial National Rural Employment Guarantee Bill.
They also reiterated the demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation enquiry into the sale of two Centaur hotels in Mumbai.
Communist Party of India-Marxist's Prakash Karat, Communist Party of India's D Raja, were among the Left leaders who attended the hour-long meeting. Forward Bloc leaders were not present.
Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Ahmed Patel and Prithviraj Chauhan represented the UPA.
