Brazil begins fingerprinting Americans

Brazil has become the first country to retaliate to America's decision to photograph and fingerprint all persons entering the US.

In the first week of 2004, all airports across Brazil began photographing and fingerprinting all Americans entering the country. People of other nations do not have to undergo this procedure, which is the outcome of a court ruling.

The US embassy in capital Brasilia said the new procedure had resulted in its citizens having to spend more time at Brazilian airports.
