A 13-year-old school-going boy tried to kill a taxi driver by slashing his throat, copying a scene from a Telugu movie featuring his favourite hero.

The shocking incident occurred in Molakalapundla village of Nellore district.

Police said that they arrested the boy and sent him to a juvenile home. After hiring the cab in Gudur town on the pretext of visiting his relatives in another village, the boy tried to slash the throat of the driver from behind.

The driver Shaikh Kareemullah was admitted to a local hospital with bleeding injuries and doctors described his condition as stable.

Police said that the boy, who had been dropped from school in a van, bought a blade from stationary shop before hiring the cab from a taxi stand. Initially the taxi driver refused to go with the boy as he was too young and he had become suspicious that the boy was playing a prank and would not pay the fare. However, the taxi owner asked the driver to go with the boy.

As the taxi was nearing destination, the boy made the driver stop the vehicle saying he wanted to attend nature’s call. When driver stopped the boy slashed his throat.

The boy had also kept his alibi ready for the police. He complained that the driver had tried to kidnap him and he attacked him in self defence.

The police said that the boy imitated a scene from the recently-released Telugu movie Rebel featuring actor Prabhas in lead role.
