A four-year-old boy is recovering after a brutal assault by an autorickshaw driver in Palghar, Maharashtra, prompting swift action from authorities and demands for justice.

The accused in the case, Sandeep Pawar, was on Thursday produced in a local court, which extended his police custody till April 4, they said.

 

The incident took place on April 30, in which the autorickshaw driver lifted the boy by his legs and slammed him to the ground before hitting his head on an iron rod following an argument with the minor's father. The crime was captured on a CCTV camera.

The minor was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Mira Road area in the district as he sustained severe head injuries.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

"The boy is now recovering at the hospital and is out of danger. The accused was produced before a magistrate's court, which extended his police custody till Saturday," senior inspector Balkrishna Ghadigaonkar of the Vasai police station said.

Political Response

Meanwhile, local MLA Sneha Dubey Pandit demanded strictest possible action against the accused.

She discussed the issue with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who assured that the perpetrator will face severe punishment, a release issued by her office said.
