The South Asian Bar Association of Greater Boston won the 2011 Outstanding Program Award for its 'Know Your Rights' program at the North American South Asian Bar Association annual convention in Los Angeles.
SABA GB's program aimed to educate members of the South Asian community about their basic legal rights and strengthen their professional and personal connections. It was divided into classes held over two semesters, which covered employment discrimination, workplace safety, fair wage and hour law, unemployment compensation, family law, consumer protection, elder, immigration, criminal, bankruptcy, health and disability law, Massachusetts courts and legislative advocacy.
"I was so very proud to accept this award on behalf of SABA GB and to be recognised by the national organisation for our work on this program," said Sa'adiyah Masoud president, SABAGB.
'I want to also personally thank SABA GB Board Member, Manisha Bhatt, for her dedication and inspiring work on this program. It is a pivotal moment for us and the beginning of many years to come,' he added.
Bhatt, a senior attorney with the Family Law Unit of Greater Boston Legal Services, spearheaded the program's creation.
