Bomb scare at Red Fort, India Gate
July 24, 2006

A massive search is on at the Red Fort and the India Gate after police received anonymous phone calls claiming that explosives had been placed at the historic monuments.

Search operations are also being carried out at the Income Tax office at ITO.

Even as the first call, received at 1202 hrs informing about a bomb placed at India Gate, was being studied, there was another call at 1222 hrs informing about explosives planted at the Red Fort, according to the police.

Immediately the entire area was cordoned off, the place vacated of tourists and shopkeepers, and bomb and dog squads were pressed into service.

Two fire tenders each were also rushed to the India Gate and the Red Fort as a precautionary measure.

But even after more than two hours of search, nothing was found. Delhi has witnessed a series of hoax bomb calls since the serial blasts in Mumbai.
