Hours before the 33rd National Games are to be kicked off by the United Progressive Alliance chairman Sonia Gandhi in Guwahati, a powerful explosion rocked Kamakhya Temple railway station in the city sending security personnel into a tizzy.
A police source said the powerful improvised explosive device was detonated by suspected militants at around 9.30 am on Friday in the platform of the railway station.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the blast as there were few people around in the railway platform at that time. Police is not sure which militant group is responsible for the blast.
The banned United Liberation Front of Asom last week withdrew its call for boycott of the National Games in response to appeal from leading
sports persons and sports buff in the state.
