Faced with the challenge of rejuvenating the party, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday amended its constitution to create six vacancies at senior positions, including two for the influential post of general secretary.
A resolution for amending the constitution was moved at the party's national council in Delhi by general secretary Pramod Mahajan and was passed by voice vote.
As per the amendment, the number of posts of vice-president has been raised from seven to nine and that of general secretary from five to seven, which includes one organisation secretary.
The number of posts of all-India secretary has been increased from seven to nine.
The need for enhancing the number of posts was warranted due to the increase in the party's base across the country due to which the workload has risen. Recommendations for increasing the posts had been made at the party's national council on February 6, Mahajan said.
