BJP to go it alone in Haryana, eyes HJC

Vijay Goel, general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the man incharge of the party's campaign in Haryana announced that they party would contest all the 90 seats. He was addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday.

"The party cadre in the state felt that the chances of the BJP doing well in the Haryana assembly elections would be much better if the party tried to emerge as an alternative to the Congress. We have reasonably good candidates who can surprise anyone in a multi-corner contest," Goel argued.

Asked why the talks between the BJP and Kuldeep Bishnoi's Haryana Janhit party broke down, Goel said that the media projected every

development in a poor light. "How can you say that the talks between BJP and Haryana Janhit Congress broke down when none were going on," he claimed. "The two parties reached a flash point over the leadership issue. Kuldeep Bishnoi wanted the post of the chief minister for his party while the BJP was not going to let that happen," a senior MP from the state told rediff.com.

In reply to a question if this was part of the pressure tactics Goel denied that the door was being kept open for the Haryana Janhit Congress ." I am consulting senior party leaders from the state before taking a decision," he said.
