'BJP policy could have fetched more revenue in coal blocks'

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday claimed that had the Centre implemented the "transparent policy of the state government", it could have earned an additional revenue of Rs 13 lakh crore in coal allocation, where a loss of Rs 1.86 lakh crore was incurred.

A resolution claiming Rs 13 lakh crore revenue loss (as assessed by the BJP) in the coal scam and demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was passed on the completion of the two-day state executive meeting on Wednesday.

"The Madhya Pradesh government has allocated six coal blocks through auctioning with a condition that the profit would be distributed between the state and the company in the ratio of 51:49," state BJP president Prabhat Jha told reporters.

"If the transparent policy adopted by the Madhya Pradesh government had been implemented by the Centre, then the government could have earn a revenue of Rs 13 lakh crore," Jha claimed.

"This is the biggest scam in the history of India and therefore the prime minister should immediately resign from his post," the BJP demanded.

The resolution on scams was drafted by BJP Member of Parliament from Jabalpur, Rakesh Singh.

The executive also demanded from the Centre that a new fertiliser policy for the farmers be framed, Jha said.

Also, in order to win the assembly seats lost by the party in the 2008 elections, the party will take out a yatra in each of the constituencies, beginning from Raghogarh, the hometown of Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh.

On the issue of agitation against inadequate compensation at Khardana in Harda district by the villagers affected by the dam project, Jha said some forces in the state were not interested in the state's development and were posing hurdles in developing its irrigation potential and power production.
