The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Bihar announced that they would oppose the move if Centre appointed a Congress leader as the new governor of the state following Buta Singh's resignation and demanded the Centre appoint a non-Congress leader as governor.
BJP's latest move comes soon after the state Congress spokesperson Prem Chand Mishra said that either Andhra Pradesh Governor Sushil Kumar Shinde or former Bihar governor Shafi Qureshi were likely to be appointed the new governor soon. Both Shinde and Qureshi are senior Congress leaders.
BJP leader Giriraj Singh said the party would oppose the appointment of a Congress leader as governor of Bihar.
"The party will launch an agitation and mobilise people to oppose the move," Singh said.
The BJP leader said by appointing a Congress leader as governor the Centre wants to rule the state.
However, the main ruling Janata Dal-United has not said anything on the issue of appintment of new governor.
