Police in Bihar fired in the air to disperse health employees and nurses of a hospital who attacked the civil lines police station in Gaya in Bihar with stones and brickbats to protest against the abduction and subsequent killing of one of their colleagues.

Malti devi, a nurse posted in a lady hospital, in this central Bihar town, had been missing since February eight. The police recovered her body from a hospital on Sunday.

Police superintendent Ravindran Shankaran said that as the news of her death spread, angry employees, including the nurses of the hospital, surrounded the police station and hurled burning tyres, stones and brickbats on policemen.

As the situation started worsen, police fired three rounds in air. No one was injured in the police action though, he claimed.

A few constables were injured in the attack. Six women have been taken into custody.
