500 kg explosives seized in Bihar

A large quantity of explosive material, suspected to have been hidden by the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist for making landmines and bombs, was on Thursday unearthed at Pusatadh forest in Bihar's Gaya district.

Acting on a tip-off from arrested Maoist commander Ajay Kanu, a police team conducted a search with the help of CRPF, Special Task Force and Special Auxilliary Police and found 10 bags each containing 50 kg of ammonium nitrate, Superintendent of Police Amit Jain said.

It was suspected that the rebels had procured the explosive material for making landmines and bombs.

About a month ago, police had seized 1500 kg of ammonium nitrate near the same area, Jain said.
