Abducted businessman Prashant Jain, who was set free at the Gandhi Setu in Vaishali district of Bihar early Tuesday morning after 12 days in captivity, was allegedly beaten up by his kidnappers.

The businessman's brother, Nishant, claimed that Prashant had suffered a head injury after being assaulted by the kidnappers.

Director General of Police Ashish Ranjan Sinha asked reporters not to disturb the visibly shocked businessman, who had been lodged at the IPS Officers mess initially. Prashant was later shifted to his residence by his relatives.

T B Jain, the businessman's grandfather, denied press reports that the family had received a demand for ransom and said, "Probably they released him realising that we were not very affluent and also because of the sustained police pressure."
