'Slack' government officers in Bihar got a bitter taste of the new regime on Sunday with authorities holding salaries of four doctors and ordering cases against them for remaining absent from duty in Vaishali district.

Officer in-charge of two police stations have also been given marching orders along with 'munshis' (literate constables) of all the police stations in the district.

Vaishali District Magistrate Sanjeev Kumar Hans conducted surprise check of government hospitals and dispensaries on Sunday morning, official sources said.

The doctors were posted at government hospitals at Sarai and Sadar in Hajipur, the sources said.

Vaishali Superintendent of Police Prita Verma gave marching orders to officers in-charge of Jandaha and Mahua police stations Prem Shankar Singh and J P Singh respectively for dereliction of duty, police sources said.

The SP also changed the 'munshis' of all 35 police stations in the district, the sources added.
