Doctors in Bihar have threatened to paralyse medical services if the government fails to rescue well-known neurosurgeon Dr Ramesh Chandra, who was abducted on Saturday night.

"We have given 48 hours to the state government to secure Dr Chandra's release," Sahjanand Singh, general secretary of the Bihar unit of the Indian Medical Association, said on Sunday night.

He was speaking after an emergency meeting of the IMA.

IMA office-bearers told rediff.com that as many as 14 doctors had been abducted in Bihar in the past 17 months.

Doctors had stopped attending late-night calls due to fear, they said.
