A student was killed on Thursday and several hurt when police opened fire on rampaging examinees and guardians who insisted on using unfair means during the intermediate examination at C M Science College in Madhepura.
The dead student has been identified as Ranvijay Kumar Rana. The police said that Rana died on way to Patna for treatment.

A woman, who was hit by a stray bullet while cutting grass, was reported out of danger.
Meanwhile, five policemen, including two home guards, were suspended while an inquiry was ordered into the role of the deputy police superintendent and inspector of Madhepura town police station on the complaints that the police took a hasty decision in opening fire.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Rituraj said that the action followed complaints from residents of Madhepura.
The police firing sparked off widespread violence in Madhepura with angry locals ransacking railway station, police station, collectorate, block office and setting on fire several official vehicles during the day.
