A Bihar member of Parliament has alleged on Monday that an unidentified man demanded Rs 10 lakh from him and threatened to kill him if he did not pay up, the police said.

Bharatiya Janata Party Araria MP Pradip Kumar Singh has informed police in Patna about the extortion demand which he received through SMS.

"I have lodged a formal complaint in this regard at Kotwali police station," he said. It is not the first such case. In the last two years, half a dozen MPs and legislators have been threatened to pay extortion in the state.
