Bihar: Maoists kill 6 villagers, abduct 7 others

Maoists shot dead six villagers and kidnapped at least seven others in Bihar's Munger district in the wee hours of Saturday, the police said.

More than 70 armed Maoists posing as policemen attacked Bangalwa Kareli village under Dharhara police station in Munger, a police official said.

"It appeared that Maoists attack was to avenge villagers for opposing them. The incident took place in a village where some people were branded as police informers by Maoists," a district police official told rediff.com

over the telephone from Munger.

Bihar Director General of Police Neelmani has confirmed the incident and said that the inspector general of was sent to the village.

Top district officials rushed to the village and security forces have been deployed following the incident. The police have launched search operations in and around the district.
