Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the unfortunate death of a doctor who was mercilessly beaten up by jail inmates last week.

Buddhadev Singh was beaten to death on May 29 in Gopalganj district jail when he went inside a ward to conduct a medical check-up of a prisoner.

Nitish Kumar told mediapersons in Patna on Monday that he has recommended for a CBI probe incident after family members of the deceased doctor met him and demanded for the same.

According to Bihar police, the prisoners wanted the doctor to issue them fake medical certificates which could have prevented their shifting to the central jail at Buxar. When Singh refused, he was lynched.

The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the state government to submit a report within two weeks on the shocking incident.

Nitish Kumar on last Tuesday admitted that administrative lapses led to the lynching of the doctor. He also blamed the jail officials, and removed Gopalganj district magistrate and inspector general of prison after the incident.
