Vigil along Assam-Bhutan border

India and Bhutan have decided to enhance security along their borders to check infiltration of militant groups of the north-east into the Himalayan nation.

During the recent Border District Coordination meeting between officials of the Bhutanese government and Assam, both the sides decided to tighten vigil particularly in the event of upcoming polls in the Bhutan.

The Assam team, led by State Home Commissioner Rajiv Bora, assured that the administration will be on full alert and thwart all moves by infiltrators to sneak into Bhutan.

The Bhutanese delegation was led by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs Tshering Wangda.

Speaking at the meeting, Wangda said the security situation in the border areas has improved considerably.

He said the joint coordination meetings have helped ensure peace, stability and harmony besides enhancing cross-border trade and commerce.

During the meeting, a wide range of issues were discussed that included review of security escort arrangements for Bhutanese civilian convoys and cooperation at the district and state levels.
