The passport of Bharti Yadav, a key witness in the Nitish Katara murder trial and sister of prime accused Vikas Yadav, has been cancelled, paving the way for her deportation to India in connection with the case.

A Delhi court on March 7 had issued a non-bailable warrant of arrest against Bharti, who has been living in London, since Katara's murder in February 2002. He was abducted from wedding in Ghaziabad, on the outskirts of Delhi, and murdered.

Sources in the Indian High Commssion said that Bharti's passport was revoked on the ground that non-bailable warrants were pending against her.

Vikas, son of Uttar Pradesh politician D P Yadav, and his cousin Vishal Yadav are the main accused in the murder of Katara, whose friendship with Bharti they reportedly did not approve of.

The prosecution has been trying unsuccessfully to secure her evidence, considered vital in securing a conviction in the case, pending before the Patiala House district courts.
