Bengaluru advocates on indefinite strike from Tuesday

The Bengaluru advocates association has directed all advocates to go on an indefinite strike and boycott court proceedings across Karnataka from Tuesday morning.

The decision comes in the wake of the clash with the media last week in which the advocates felt that they were being targeted.

The association has also requested all other units in Karnataka to refrain from attending courts indefinitely.

The 40,000 odd advocates in Bengaluru will refrain from court proceedings until their demands are met, K Subba Reddy, the association president, told rediff.com on Monday night.

The demands of the advocates include action against police excesses, compensation for the injured advocates, transfer of state police chief Shankar Bidri and Police Commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji.

The courts, however, would be in session, but it is highly unlikely that proceedings would go on normally. Security too has been beefed up in all courts in the city.
