BSF jawans on Saturday fired on school students injuring three when asked to apologise for having beaten up some of them up in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, police said.

Earlier on Saturday, a number of students were beaten up by a BSF jawan, based in a camp in Nintitai village under Suti police station area, when he fell off from his bicycle after colliding with them.

After complaining to their teacher, the students went to the BSF camp and demanded an apology.

This angered the jawans, who opened fire injuring three students, one critically, police said.

Confirming the firing on the school students, District Magistrate Manoj Panth said he had taken up the matter with the BSF and demanded punishment for the guilty border guards.

The district superintendent of police rushed to Nintitai after villagers staged a dharna against the firing, leading to some tension.
