A fire erupted in Kolkata's business hub, Burrabazar, gutting a large number of shops in the early hours of Saturday.
Forty fire tenders have been battling the blaze since 1:18 IST, sources said.
There is no report of any casualty so far.
The fire erupted in a multi-storeyed building and soon spread to the nearby shops, the sources said.
Meanwhile, police has cordoned off the entire area close to M G Road, to keep the crowd at bay.
