Battle for Andhra Pradesh, Odisha: THE VERDICT

The results for the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha assembly elections were declared on Tuesday.

The National Democratic Alliance -- comprising the Telugu Desam Party, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janasena -- won 164 seats in the 175-member Andhra Pradesh assembly.

According to the information disseminated by the Election Commission, the TDP won 135 seats, the Janasena won 21 and the BJP emerged victorious in eight constituencies.

The ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party of Jagan Mohan Reddy won 11 seats.

In Odisha, the BJP stormed to power by dethroning the Biju Janata Dal which has been in power for the last 24 years.

The BJP won 78 seats in the 147-member Odisha Assembly, according to the Election Commission of India.

The BJD won 51 seats. Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik won from the Hinjili Assembly seat but lost from the Kantabanji seat.

The Congress won 14 seats while the CPI(M) won one seat. Independents won three seats.

In the 2019 Assembly election, the BJD had won 113 seats, BJP 23 seats and Congress nine.
