Video: Bal Thackeray's ashes immersed

The ashes of late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray were on Friday immersed in the Arabian Sea by his son and party executive president Uddhav Thackeray.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president and Bal Thackeray's nephew Raj Thackeray was also present at the Gateway of India, where the family had gathered to immerse the ashes.

The ashes of the late Shiv Sena chief were also immersed in river Godavari in Nashik in north Maharashtra.

The ashes were immersed in the 'asthi kunda', a small holy pond on the bank of Godavari, on Friday afternoon at the hands of Shiv Sena district chief Vijay Karanjkar and other local party leaders.

Earlier in the day, the urn containing the ashes of Thackeray, who passed away in Mumbai on Saturday last, was taken for immersion in a procession.

The procession started from the Shiv Sena office at Shalimar Chowk and passed through several areas to reach at the bank of Godavari at around 11.45 am.

A small puja was performed before the ashes were immersed in the river considered the Ganga of the South.

The 86-year-old Sena patriarch died on November 17 after a prolonged illness.
