Industrialist Rahul Bajaj was on Thursday elected to Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra, having secured 195 votes.

Bajaj, who had the support of the Nationalist Congress Party, Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena, needed only 145 seats to get elected to the Upper House of Parliament.

His nearest Congress rival Avinash Pande managed 90 votes, which were counted in the state assembly.

The election was held to fill the vacancy caused by the death of BJP leader Pramod Mahajan.
