Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Wednesday filed his nomination papers from Sitarganj Assembly constituency for which by-election would be held on July 8, officials said.
Bahuguna was flanked by Pradesh Congress Committe Chief and Revenue Minister Yashpal Arya, Pauri Garhwal MP Satpal Maharaj and other senior leaders. Union Minister Harish Rawat was, however, conspicuous by his absence.
The seat fell vacant after Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Legislative Assembly Kiran Mandal resigned last month to facilitate Bahuguna to enter the legislative assembly.
