In a humane gesture, a dying Indian man donated one of his kidneys to a Bahrain national, a media report said on Sunday.

Twenty six-years-old Suresh Vassukutty donated his kidney to 51-years-old Ahmed Kanaf of Manama before being declared clinically dead, the Bahrain Tribune reported.

Suresh had been hospitalised after meeting with an accident at his workplace. He was finally taken off the ventilator on Saturday after being declared dead.

"I desperately need this transplant as this is my last hope. I had planned to go to Kerala but things did not work out. I am a sick man and this noble gesture by Suresh will remain with me for the rest of my life," Ahmed, who received the kidney, was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

Suresh's family gave its consent for the donation on Thursday, the report said.
