Ayodhya commission gets two-month extension

July 03, 2007 12:56 IST
Liberhan Commission has received yet another extension, the third this year. The government gave it two more months to complete its inquiry into the circumstances that led to the demolition of the Babri mosque in Ayodhya.

The term of the Commission headed by retired Justice Manmohan Singh Liberhan, ended on March 31, 2007, and was extended for three months till June 30, 2007, with a clear direction that it should submit its report either on or before that date.

The term of the 14-year-old panel has been again extended till August 31, 2007, an official release said. The panel was appointed within a fortnight of the demolition of the structure at the disputed site on December 6, 1992 to inquire into the circumstances that led to the incident.
