Police have arrested a wanted accused linked to several ATM thefts to the tune of lakhs of rupees, officials said.

The accused had been absconding in several cases, they said.

Aashiq, a resident of Gogjaka village in Nuh district, is a proclaimed offender in a 2018 case registered at the Rohtak (Urban) police station.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from Tauru city police station arrested the accused on Tuesday, officials said.

During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused stole approximately Rs 40 lakh by hacking an SBI Bank ATM in Rohtak in 2018, police said.

He allegedly also stole around Rs 23 lakh from an ATM in Jhajjar in the same year and Rs 32 lakh from an ATM in the Brass Market area of Rewari, according to police.

Ongoing Investigation

"The accused has several cases registered against him in Delhi, including under the Arms Act, at the Uttam Nagar and Chhawla police stations. He has a total of six cases of robbery and theft and has been handed over to the Rohtak police for further investigation," a police spokesperson said.

The arrest is likely to uncover several ATM theft cases, the officer added.
