The trial of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in the Rs 66-crore disproportionate assets case will be back in the Supreme Court. As per the orders of the apex court, the questioning of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief should have been completed in two days that is by Friday. However, the special court was unable to complete the procedure.

Jayalalaithaa's statements were being recorded for a second day on Friday wherein she answered a total of 570 questions in two days and signed on each question that she answered.

Jayalalithaa's lawyer B N Kumar said that she would move SC seeking a directive as what needs to be done now. The apex court will have to give a fresh date so that the process of recording statements is completed.

Meanwhile, the special court in Bengaluru has adjourned further hearing on the matter to November 8.

Jayalalithaa, who flew back to Chennai on Thursday after her statement was recorded, returned to Bengaluru on Friday morning to appear before the makeshift court at Parappana Agrahara central jail premises.

She answered 379 questions on Thursday. Her statement was recorded before special court judge B M Mallikarjunaiah in closed-door hearing amid tight security for the court premises and areas in its vicinity.

Thursday's appearance by Jayalalithaa in the 15-year-old case was the first since the trial was transferred to Bengaluru in 2003 by the Supreme Court on a petition by Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam, that a fair trial was not possible in Chennai during her tenure as chief minister then.

The Supreme Court had on Wednesday rejected her plea for postponing the hearing against her by a few days and asked her to appear before the special court.

With Jayalalithaa enjoying 'Z plus' category security, policemen have been deployed in good strength.
