One worker died and three other workers were injured following a clash between a mob of workers and Central Industrial Security Force personnel at Brahmaputra Crackers and Polymers Limited at Lepetkata in Dibrugah district of eastern Assam on Friday.
A senior police official informed that one injured worker was killed on way to the hospital and three others were injured when a clash broke out between workers and CISF personnel at the BCPL plant during the lunch time on Friday.
A quarrel between a worker and a CISF jawan snowballed into the violence with agitated workers going on a rampage after the CISF jawan beat up the worker. The CISF was forced to resort to lathi-charge, tear gas shelling and black firing.
Additional forces were rushed to the spot even as senior police officials and district officials visited the incident site to bring the situation under control.
Gas Authority of India Limited is the major promoter of the BCPL with 70 per cent holding in the company where Assam government, Oil India Limited and Numaligarh Refinery have 10 per cent state each.
