ULFA plan to disrupt I-Day celebrations foiled

Assam police has recovered a huge quantity of explosives that would have sufficed to make at least seven powerful improvised explosive devices, from a hideout of suspected United Liberation Front of Assam militants near the Assam-Meghalaya border.

A senior police official informed that the police came to know about the explosive materials following the arrest of an ULFA militant in Guwahati on Thursday.

Acting on the lead provided by the arrested militants a team of Assam police personnel recovered seven slabs of TNT weighing 450 gm each, detonators and fuse wires that could have been easily converted to seven powerful bombs.

Police said, once the bombs were ready, the militants would have moved those to different parts of the state, including state capital Guwahati that has been virtually fortified by the security forces in the run up to Independence Day.
