The Assam government has constituted a special task force to be headed by the additional director general of police (criminal investigation department wing) to tackle the rising trend of crime against women in the state.
The task force has been constituted as per the announcement made by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in the wake of the molestation incident on July 9, that took place in the heart of Guwahati city.
The State Assembly was informed about it by Forest Minister Rakibul Hussain while replying to a discussion on rising crime against women in the state. He gave the reply on behalf of the chief minister who is also the home minister.
The minister further informed that House that the Assam government has already put into force, a Vision 2016 programme for the welfare of women and children in the state.
Hussain informed the House about the measures that had been taken by the state government to check crimes such as the July 9 Guwahati molestation, the recent mob attack on Congress legislator Dr Rumi Nath and to nab all the culprits involved.
