Suspected tribal militants belonging to the anti-talks faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland abducted two drivers of the Northeast Frontier Railway near Bhalukpong in Sonitpur district of northern Assam adjoining Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday.

An official source informed that a group of armed militants who stopped the Bhalukpong passenger train (up) in a place between Gamani and Bhalukpong railway stations and abducted four people -- the driver, an assistant driver, the guard and a clerk of the train. The ultras took the railway staff to a nearby jungle. Though the guard and clerk were later let off, the driver and assistant driver have remained untraced.

The two people, who have been kidnapped, were identified as driver Atul Chiring Phukan and M Buragohain.

Though no group has claimed responsibility for the abduction, the police have suspected it to be the work of the NDFB's anti-talk faction which is active in the area.
